Parents

At WMS, we believe that parents are children’s primary educators, so we encourage their involvement through conferences, classroom observations, day-to-day contact, and our exciting “artist in residency week,” when they can share their unique interests and experiences with students.

Parent education classes are regularly scheduled throughout the year, along with yoga and pilates classes. Parents and families also volunteer their support for events such as the year-end school picnic, the annual fundraising auction, a book fair, and community outreach activities.

Big Y Express Education - If you shop at Big Y, you can sign up for free and earn money for school supplies. For more information, visit http://www.bigy.com/education.

Stop & Shop A+ Bucks - If you have a Stop & Shop frequent shopper card, you can register it online and WMS earns a small percentage of cash each month. http://www.stopandshop.com/aplus

Ebay's Missionfish - If you sell things on Ebay, you can donate a percentage of the proceeds to WMS. When creating a listing to sell something, click on the section, "choose how you'd like to sell your item." If you have not given to WMS before, then choose, "or, select another nonprofit you love" and a new window will appear detailing all of the eligible nonprofits you love. WMS is listed as Washington Montessori Assn Inc. You can choose a donation percentage between 10% and 100%, with a minimum donation of $5. Please note that if you sell something for less than $5, there is still a minimum donation of $5. You only have to setup WMS once and going forward, WMS will appear as a nonprofit choice.

One Cause - Join the www.onecause.com website and start your shopping from their website to earn money for WMS. It is easy and free. There are hundreds of merchants on this website including Gap, Staples, Travelocity and Land's End.

Target - If you have a Target Visa, you can choose WMS as your educational institution and Target will donate 1% of your purchases to the school. Goto Target.com and click on "Take Charge of Education" at the bottom of the page under "Company Information."

COMMUNICATION INITIATIVE 2007/08:

In January of 2008, a task force was created to study how to strengthen parents’ connection to WMS. This past Spring, parents completed a survey to help WMS with this initiative.
