LE Residency - Europe Odds Bodkins
Date: 04/16/2010
Time: 6:30 PM
April 12 through April 16 is the Lower Elementary Residency week, culminating with a student performance on Friday evening at 6:30pm. We are excited to be working with master storyteller, Odds Bodkin, a performer with gigs at Lincoln Center, the White House, in Thailand and Great Britain on his resume .
To enrich our students' study of Europe, we will be learning to tell stories from Europe focusing on a classic folk tale from Italy, "The Little Shepherd. " This is a long and intricate Italian folk tale with many twists, human foibles and failings and magical creatures. Good and love, of course, triumph in the end.
Last year's residency emphasized the making of physical things, as well as Australian culture. This year's residency will concentrate on the tools of story telling- how to present yourself and what you have to say. Rather than thinking about costuming, backdrops, scenery and props, the emphasis will be on the heart of the matter, how to communicate a story.
So although we have been so happy to have parent help and support in past residencies, this year there are not many things to worry about. We will use what we have at hand or MIME it!
Here is how we do need your help:
1. Your children will need to have plain black clothes- pants, shirts, clothing that can fade into the background and allow their facial expressions, voices, and movement to shine out and tell the story.
2. Come to enjoy the performance sharing on Friday evening, April 16 at 6:30 in the theater! Please have your children in their classrooms at 6:15 and then find your seats.
