Parent Earth Team - Power Out Night
Date: 11/01/2009
Time: 5:00 AM
Please join the WMS community on Power Out Night (Sunday night, November 1 from 5pm – 5am) by turning off all lights and appliances (TVs, computers, stereos, ovens, washer/dryers, etc,) in your home and even consider turning off the heat! Enjoy bundling up by the fire and sitting by candle light as our ancestors did 150 years ago. You can even avoid using "vampire" electricity by actually unplugging appliances or turning off power strips into which appliances are plugged. (Did you know that electrical appliances, including TVs and computers, draw "vampire" electricity even when they are not turned on?) Sponsored by the WMS Student Earth Team and the Parent Earth Team, we hope this unique opportunity will increase energy conservation awareness among our school community. Families are encouraged to think and talk about ways to reduce their energy use on a day-to-day basis. Clean-burning soy candles will be handed out to all students on Friday, October 30 at dismissal to help remind families to be a part of Power Out night at your house! The candles were generously purchased by an anonymous donor from Northville Market which provided them at cost for this function.
